The desktop app.
For the calls that don't happen in a browser console. Taiwa for Windows translates both sides of a call in Microsoft Teams, Zoom or your softphone.
Windows 11 — available now, in early access. macOS — coming soon.
Why there's an app as well
The browser extension works because your call console is a web page. Teams, Zoom and most softphones aren't — they're applications, and an extension can't reach their audio.
So the desktop app works at the one level they all share: the microphone and the speaker. It adds its own audio devices to the PC, your call app is pointed at them, and Taiwa sits between the call and your agent's headset.
How it works
- 1
Install it once.
One signed Windows installer, with the audio driver inside it. Your IT team can deploy it the way they deploy any other MSI.
- 2
Point your call app at Taiwa.
In Teams, Zoom or the softphone, choose Taiwa's microphone and speaker. Your agent's own headset is chosen in Taiwa. The app checks both and says so in plain words when one is set wrong.
- 3
Take the call.
Your agent hears the customer in their own language. The customer hears your agent in theirs. A small strip stays on top of the call window with the transcript, the languages and Hold.
The same Taiwa
It isn't a second product.
- The same account, sign-in and admin portal as the extension.
- The same languages — 37 of them, and 9 regional variants.
- The same key: your own DeepL, OpenAI or Google Gemini contract.
- The same fee. An agent who uses both the extension and the app is one active user.
For your IT team
- Signed by Kanso CX Ltd, with an audio driver attested by Microsoft. It installs with Secure Boot on.
- The app checks for an update only when the agent asks it to. A managed install can switch that off and take updates through your own software channel.
- Every host, port and protocol the app needs is written down, proxy support included, so your network team isn't guessing.
- The app keeps a usage record on the agent's PC. It leaves that PC only during a hypercare period your admin switches on, and a machine policy can stop it entirely.
Audio goes from the PC straight to your translation supplier. It doesn't pass through our servers, and we don't store it.
Where the audio goes →macOS
A Mac app is coming. It isn't ready, and we're not going to give a date we can't keep. If your agents are on Macs, say so when you request access — it's how we decide what to build next.
Until then, the browser extension runs in Chrome on a Mac, in any of the seven supported call consoles.
What it doesn't do yet
- It needs Windows 11, on a 64-bit Intel or AMD PC. It doesn't run on Windows 10.
- We haven't tested it on virtual desktops — Citrix or VDI. If that's how your agents work, tell us before you plan around it.
- It's not for regulated calls. That is the same limit as the rest of Taiwa.
